⭐What is a homeschool evaluation?

In Florida, homeschool parents must complete a yearly evaluation to show that their child is making educational progress.
The evaluation is a simple, supportive process — not a test!
It can be done through a portfolio review and discussion with a Florida-certified teacher.

⭐When do I need to complete the evaluation?

Your evaluation is due one year from the date you submitted your homeschool notice of intent to your local district.
You can schedule it anytime before that anniversary date each year.

⭐What does Florida law require?

Florida Statute §1002.41 requires an annual evaluation to show your child is making “educational progress commensurate with their ability.”
Acceptable methods include:

  • A portfolio review by a certified teacher (most common)
  • A nationally normed test
  • A psychological evaluation
  • Another approved assessment method

Homeschool Clubhouse provides the portfolio review option — the most flexible and personalized method for families.

⭐What should I bring to the evaluation?

Please bring a portfolio or digital collection showing your child’s learning throughout the year.
This can include:

  • Samples of work in reading, writing, and math
  • Science or social studies projects
  • Art, photos, or special interest work
  • Lists of books read (at least 2) or curriculum used
  • Any notes or progress summaries

It doesn’t have to be perfect — just enough to show growth over time.

⭐What happens during the evaluation?

Our meeting usually lasts 30–60 minutes and includes:

  1. A short chat with you (the parent/teacher) about your homeschool year
  2. A friendly conversation with your student about what they’ve learned
  3. A review of portfolio samples and curriculum
  4. Time for questions, encouragement, and feedback

You’ll leave feeling confident and supported — no stress or judgment.

⭐What will I receive afterward?

Within 1–2 days, you’ll receive:

  • Official Evaluation Letter (PDF) for submission to your district
  • 💬 Optional Evaluation Summary with notes on strengths and growth
  • 💌 Thank You Email with reminders for your records

You can then send your signed evaluation letter to your local homeschool office by email, mail, or in person.

⭐Can we meet virtually?

Yes!
Homeschool Clubhouse offers virtual evaluations for all grade levels.
You can share your portfolio digitally or hold it up during our video meeting.

⭐Do you offer in-person evaluations?

I do not offer in-person evaluations at this time. All evaluations and consultations are completed virtually.

⭐What if my child is shy or nervous?

That’s completely okay — and very common!
I keep the student portion friendly and relaxed.
They can show me a favorite project, book, or tell me something they enjoyed learning.
There’s no testing or pressure — just conversation.

⭐What do I need to submit to the district?

You’ll only need to submit the signed evaluation letter — not the portfolio itself.
Each district has its own submission process, but most accept email copies.

⭐Do you keep copies of the evaluation?

Yes, Homeschool Clubhouse keeps a record of each evaluation for two years in compliance with Florida homeschool regulations.

⭐Can you help with homeschool planning or curriculum?

Yes!
You can also book a Homeschool Consultation for guidance on:

  • Choosing curriculum
  • Setting up a portfolio
  • Creating goals for next year
  • Special needs accommodations
